I supose the only argument one can muster against this game is it's age. The fact that its old, and susequently pirimitive, may to some minds, make this an unworthy game. Those thoughts, are merely a word, foolish.
This marks the start of a saga, the beging of a golden age of RPGs that would lead the Super Nintendo to success, and the Playstaion to fame. Graphics do not make a game, gameplay makes a game. (Get it?)
It was on a few sites that I read pages bashing this game for its age, and even more refused to acknowledge its existence. However, one must realize, that this is, simply put: one of the best games ever made.
You start out the game as the four warriors of the light (children for sure, but you grow up later and your job classes increase, a nice touch) each holding orbs. Your goal is to save the world from an awakening evil before it deystroys the planet subsequently killing everyone.
I should warn any who would dare play this game that it is incerdibly difficult. You will have to work up often before moving on into a new area, and items, armor and spells get very expensive very fast. This game is no walk in the park, and contains about twenty-four solid hours of game play. So pack a lunch and three diners, your in for quite a quest.
The game is highly entertaining, and the story moves fairly well with many subquests on the side. While the story is not as "indepth" as many of the modern Final Fantasys, that was not the focus of the game to ebgin with. It is ment to be more of an exploritory title, and perhaps is the least linear of all the current 8 games, with the exception of the second half of Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy XI may change all of that, however).
The combat system feels like a pirimitive version of the Final Fantasys now (well, it is) and has a bit of a retro feel to it. However, it is quickly adjusted to and causes no real problems.
In short, this is a very worthy title to have (and I am a proud owner) for any Final Fantasy veteran or any one who wants to journey back to the roots of the series. And, for you lame-o's out there, the series started here, not with Final Fantasy 7.
